Cape’s Sea Crest Offering Mid-Summer Deal

Cape Cod in mid-summer may not seem the best time to get a deal on stays. But the Sea Crest Beach Hotel, on its own private stretch of Old Silver Beach in Falmouth, has a pretty good mid-week package this month. Better hurry though, it ends July 21.

The resort is offering a 20-percent discount on normal rates, which start at $296 a night. You can get cool stuff midweek, like its “Shore Dinner Series” and “Jamaican BBQ Nights” on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the beach.

Pool FrontWe stayed a couple years ago, finding the drive easy, about 65 miles and an hour and a quarter from Providence (midweek also means less horrendous bridge traffic). Sea Crest had undergone a $15-million renovation, including to its 265 guestrooms, spread out over eight buildings. Ours was a very pleasant space facing the courtyard, with nice touches like woven sea-grass headboards and a color scheme of whites and sea-glass blues and greens. Upper floors have balconies, and the best rooms face the ocean – where the sunset views from the resort’s dining area are phenomenal.

The place has been family friendly for years, and the beach, as gorgeous and wide as it is, has a goodly amount of happy kids running around, but that’s as it should be. Personally, we love watching kids having a ball on the beach, so it didn’t bother us a bit. And Sea Crest has lots to keep them busy, like beach volleyball, face painting, family karaoke and trivia nights, and other fun stuff.

Food prices aren’t Cape Cod crazy, either; a generous serving of fish and chips (most fish is local and as fresh as it gets) will set you back $20, and the Atlantic swordfish I had two years ago for $28 is the same price now. The prices overall are virtually the same as in 2014, which almost never happens, especially down the Cape.

Sea Crest is a good jumping-off point as well, and minutes away from the Cape Cod Museum of Art and the new Cultural Center of Cape Cod.

The current deal is a good one, but if you want to really save, visit in off-season. September is just beautiful down the Cape, and Sea Crest rates start at $153 a night after Labor Day.
