Bristol is a most American city — it’s home to one of the biggest and best Fourth of July celebrations in the country — but from June 8-11 this East Bay town will be hoisting the Union Jack as a fleet of Rolls Royces, Triumphs, and Jaguars (that’s pronounced “Jag-U-ar,” provincials) arrives for the annual British Motorcar Festival.
Classic British wheels from all around New England will take part in a road rally, scavenger hunt, and Beatles-themed street party, among other highlights of the four-day weekend. The full schedule includes:
- Thursday, June 8 – The British Hidden Highway Hundred Rally will cruise through the back roads of Newport, Jamestown, and South Kingstown, with a stop for lunch and display of cars at a local vineyard.
- Friday, June 9 – An evening street party in Independence Park will be hosted by Explore Bristol and feature cars on display, a self-guided scavenger hunt, and Beatles music.
- Saturday, June 10 – The British Motorcar Show and Competition at Colt State Park commences, including the Concours d’Elegance (judged competition), the arrival of the show Queen with a cannon salute, the British Classic (People’s Choice competition), a ladies hat competition, and a British attire competition.
- Sunday, June 11 – The show field is open to the general public and includes the Competition of Colors, a British Car Corral and Marketplace, and a New British Motorcar display.
The show field at Colt State Park is open Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. General admission is $15.
