It’s going to be quite a weekend in Newport for fans of sailing history.
Rhode Island’s own tall ship, the Oliver Hazard Perry, is back in port in Newport and will be open this weekend for public tours. The ship, which serves an educational mission with cruises around the east coast and to the Caribbean, will be open to free tours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The OHP is the first ocean-going full-rigged Tall Ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years.
Coincidentally, the replicas of two members of Christopher Columbus’ exploratory fleet, the Nina and Santa Maria, will also be docked this weekend at Fort Adams and are open for tours as well. Tickets, which allow admission to both ships, are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for kids. Your ticket stub also is worth $2 off admission to Fort Adams, which you can also, also tour!
