Newport is synonymous with sailing, especially because of the city long-standing connection to the America’s Cup races. It’s also a pretty good place to shop for sharp-looking clothes, and now there’s one place that combines both: Marc Allen Fine Clothiers on Bellevue Avenue was named the exclusive retailer for America’s Cup merchandise in Rhode Island, and through Labor Day, 15 percent of all sales of that gear will be donated to Sail Newport, a nonprofit that promotes and provides affordable public sailing programs to adults and kids.
“Newport is historically linked with the America’s Cup, and the donation will help Sail Newport continue its work to keep access to sailing open to the public,” said Brad Read, Sail Newport’s executive director.
America’s Cup merchandise ranges in price from $45-$150, and includes an array of short-and long-sleeved t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters and more.
“We look forward to supporting Sail Newport through this endeavor and through future opportunities as well,” said Marc Streisand, owner of the store, which also has its flagship shop in Providence. “Our Bellevue Avenue shop is already nautically themed and this line is a nice complement to our fine European brands.”
Both Marc Allen locations carry a range of high-end men’s attire, with lines that include Incotex, PT01, Inis Meain, Loro Piana and Maurizio Baldassari.
