Work on Wellness, Newport Style

Health and well-being don’t take a quick-fix, but a lifestyle change. Many make New Year’s resolutions, but according to some reports, about 80 percent fall by the wayside by the second week of February. Discover Newport is stepping up to the healthy challenge with the first Newport’s Wellness Week, Jan. 21-27, a celebration of mind, body and spirit designed to educate and inspire.

Newport Wellness Week includes everything from trendy fitness classes, hydrotherapy and pampering spa treatments to free consultations, discounts, and deals. Each experience and event is tailored to help residents and visitors alike live their best life.

Wellness Marketplace

The seven-day event kicks off Jan. 21 with a Wellness Marketplace at the Newport Visitor Information Center at 23 America’s Cup Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free marketplaces is a chance for the public to learn about high-intensity indoor cycling, personal fitness training, nutrition, mindfulness, yoga, essential oils and massage/spa treatments from more than a dozen vendors. Freebees include gratis home personal training sessions, hydro fitness classes, and body pump sessions.

A dedicated webpage — www.discovernewport.org/newport-wellness-week — features events and offerings throughout Newport Wellness Week, which include 25 percent off hair analysis, gut testing, herbal cleanses and food sensitivity at Eat to Live; and a free customized Essential Oils consultation.

Five dollar yoga will get your chakras aligned, cheap. And Newport Wellness Week is also a great time to sign up for the upcoming Newport Night Run 5K (20 percent off). Many of Newport’s best spas are taking part, too: Spa Fjor at the Hotel Viking is offering a special Escape Package, the Seawater Spa at Gurney’s Newport has a “Saltwater Escape” deal, East Island Reserve will give you a 60-minute massage for $60, and the Newport Marriott is taking 20 percent off spa services. Plus, if you book any spa service at Bodhi Spa, you get to take their exhilarating Water Journey for free.
