Foodies in Rhode Island will have choices to make the next two weeks — good choices, like “which great Providence restaurant should I eat in for cheap tonight.” The first Providence Restaurant Week (s) of 2018 are happening right now (and through Jan. 27), and nearly 100 restaurants in and around the capital city are taking part.
This year’s deals are three-course lunches for $16.95 and three-course dinners for $29.95 or $34.95. Some places are also offering two-for-one deals — think of it as getting a Groupon without having to pre-pay.
Matunuck Oyster Bar is pretty far from the city, but it’s a surprise entry on the Providence Restaurant week list (oysters, chowdah and almost any entree on the menu for $29.95? Sold!). And we’re always stoked for Chez Pascal, Duck and Bunny, and Siena. Plus this should be a great time to check out relative newcomers on the dining scene, like The Vig on Federal Hill, and some “I still can’t believe I haven’t been there yet” places like The Abbey, an Admiral beer-and-burger joint (there have been claims that they have the state’s best burgers — that kind of talk requires in-person confirmation).
The Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau has done a great job with the Providence Restaurant Week website, with an easy-to-search listing of participating restaurants. Just click to see whether they take part in lunch, dinner, or 2-for-1, and menus are easily viewable, too.

Finally, the CVB also is giving away a dinner and a show to celebrate Providence Restaurant Week; you can enter on the website to win four tickets to the opening night of “On Your Feet: The Emilio & Gloria Estefan Broadway Musical” at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Jan. 30, plus a $50 gift card to Parkside, Providence’s famous rotisserie restaurant and bar. Even if you’re not lucky, though, Providence Restaurant Week will make you feel like a winner.
